No. 800 a Curse for Agassi
No. 800 a Curse for Agassi
Andre Agassi was bundled out of the first round at Roland Garros Monday, beaten by French qualifier Jerome Haehnel, the lowest-ranked player in the draw. Agassi, who was chasing his 800th career win, was stunned 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-3 by Haehnel, who was playing his first match at ATP level. Agassi, who has not won a tournament for more than a year, also suffered a shock first-round loss in St. Poelten last week.
Third seed and tournament favorite Guillermo Coria began his title quest ominously with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-0 win against Russian Nikolay Davydenko. Tim Henman came from two sets down to defeat Cyril Saulnier and Carlos Moya defeated John van Lottum in four sets.
